Hello

I'm a new writer who is drawn to speculative fiction. I've submitted a couple of short stories and am working seriously on a few others while dabbling in what I hope will become my first novel. I recently finished an MA in linguistics and I'm excited to leave the nonfiction writing behind in favor of the work I've always wanted to do, although I do have a little more nonfiction work to do since I promised my thesis adviser that I'd revise my thesis and submit it to a journal.

I've been looking at the various trade magazines out there and this one looks interesting. I might subscribe, but I haven't decided yet.

I'm looking forward to getting involved in this community. It's refreshing to read a message board that's actually readable and not full of poor spelling and grammatical roadblocks.

Welcome to the WriterMag.com forums, SarahJenneFoster!

It sounds like you are already making headway in your desired writing genre -- that's great! Having a passion for the writing you do is one of the most important elements of a satisfying writing career.

You mentioned that you might subscribe. Just to tell you a little more about The Writer -- we try to focus on the craft of writing. We do cover the business of writing, too, among a few other things, but our main mission is to help people improve their writing skills. Make sure to look around the website this weekend -- everything will be open to anyone who wants to look! We occasionally open everything for a few days so that people can see what we're about and get a feel for the topics we cover.

If you have any questions about the website or the magazine, please let me know.

Again -- welcome!

Martha
