G'day from Australia
Daniel G Taylor Posted: Thu, Jun 16 2011 1:43 AM Reply

Hi everyone,

First let me clear up a couple of things. Yes, us Aussies do say 'G'day' to each other. And no, we don't walk on our heads.

I mention that last bit because in primary school my class was taught a song to correct the belief that Americans seem to have because we live 'down under', we walk upside down. The song went: "We walk on our feet in Australia/we walk with our feet on the ground/just cause we're down under/ you shouldn't make the blunder/ of thinking that we're upside down."

Of course, writers are too smart to fall for such a silly belief, right?

Now my one paragraph writing blurb. Since 1994, I've been a professional writer. I taught myself using The Writer and its competition, which I'm not sure I'm allowed to mention here. I've mainly written feature articles, but I've also blogged since before it was trendy, and written scripts, poetry and the odd short story.

The short stories themselves may not be odd, but the writer himself is. When I was 20, I had my first manic episode of bipolar disorder. I even took a break from writing for 5 years because I lost all faith in myself. But since 2009, I've been writing regular features and am also working on a memoir.

Thanks for letting me be a part of the community and I'll do my best to offer helpful insights.

Sincerely,

Daniel G Taylor

Welcome Daniel -

It's always great to hear success stories of recovery in every shape and form, no matter whether you're down under or up over.  Best wishes!

G'day yourself, Daniel G, from Australia.

I am checking out Mother's Happy Child's writings in order to get to know her brain and found you. We Aussies  are so few on this virtual ground and communication is sparse. Thank you for introducing yourself so I could check out your brain too. Feel free to check out mine!

My inspiration; what if?

Put pen to paper

Write now, not later,

Don't hesitate

Just write it!

Hi Daniel

Welcome and thanks for sharing the song. It cleared up a lot of false beliefs for me but you didn't mention the thing about children growing up in a pouch. That's probly not true either, huh?

I write supernatural and horror stories and have one about the Aussie "Bunyip" legend. Are you familiar with the folklore? I submitted it as a short story and was asked to flesh it out as a novel so that will be my next project. Let me know if you know of a good on line source for Australian legends and I'll have a look.  good luck with your writing projects.
