RE:Ready to get serious about my writing
Hi, flirtybirdie ~
One of the best ways to get yourself going in the forum community is to do critiques for other people and then invite them to look at your work!
If you want some guidance on a plan to give feedback, you can take a look at an article about how to give good feedback by Vicki Hudson that appeared in our May issue. It's available to subscribers to the magazine who are registered on the website. If you're not a subscriber, here is a brief summary of her four main points of a good critique:
1. Start with positive comments. Give specific examples of what worked.
2. Ask questions. For example: What were you intending to convey to the reader when you said "XYZ"? Then say what your reaction was.
3. Give constructive feedback about what didn't work. (Most important point - be kind, but not wishy-washy. The writer genuinely wants to know what he or she should work on and what didn't come across to the reader.)
4. Finish up with something positive about the overall piece.
Good luck with taking your writing to the next level! As a famous athletic shoe manufacturer said: "Just do it!"
