NEW NOVEL RELEASED!
Janet Kay Posted: Sun, Mar 7 2010 8:49 AM Reply

Greetings,

I'm pleased to announce the release of my debut novel, Waters of the Dancing Sky. It is an inspirational love story set on the wilderness islands of Rainy Lake along the Minnesota/Ontario international border. An intriguing blend of fact and fiction, it weaves an appreciation of nature and local Ojibwe culture into our eternal search for meaning.

Please check out my website, www.watersofthedancingsky.com for more information, a photo gallery, resource guide, book reviews, and a contest.

Thanks to THE WRITER for all the excellent articles - they have helped to make my publishing dream come true.

Have a great day!

Janet Kay

Hello, Janet!

Congratulations on the release of your novel! We're happy to hear that The Writer has been helpful to you.

As someone who loves doing research, I was wondering how you researched the Ojibwe?

Martha

Hi Martha,

Thanks!

I'm fortunate to have several friends who are of Ojibwe descent so they were able to steer me in the right direction. I also spent time researching in the Rainy Lake area which is near an Ojibwe reservation and cultural center. The Voyageur's National Park Headquarters (also located in this area where my novel is set) allowed me access to their wealth of resources, including oral history interviews with some of the old-timers of Ojibwe heritage. And the curator at the historical museum in International Falls was a wealth of information. I found many books about this culture as well as resources on the Internet. It was a fascinating experience, especially talking with people who had stories to tell about their experience with local tribal members in years past.

Best to you

So you're saying there's a right way, a wrong way, and an Ojibwe?

Congratulations, Janet.  Great feeling, huh?
