Beginning in the May issue
of The Writer, we’re happy to add a new contributing editor to our masthead,
Bharti Kirchner. The Seattle writer – that’s her at left
-- is a familiar byline to our readers, having written many articles in recent
years on various elements of fiction and other topics. She is also a familiar
sight at writing conferences, where she often presents. (If you live in or
around the state of Washington, you can check out her appearances at two upcoming
conferences: the Whidbey Island Writers Conference, on April 1-2, and the Field’s End Writers Conference, on Bainbridge Island, on April 16.)
Bharti’s articles are
informed by extensive publishing experience, including four novels – her latest
is Pastries: A Novel of Desserts and Discoveries, from St. Martin’s – as well
as four cookbooks and many articles and essays. When not at work on her next
novel, Goddess of Fire, she managed to turn out a fine cover story for our June
issue, surveying 17 accomplished writers on how they got the idea and
inspiration for a piece of writing. (Among her subjects: National Book Award
winner Julia Glass, Sue Grafton, Elizabeth George, Pico Iyer and Bret Anthony
Johnston.)
At The Writer we’ve been
consistently pleased with Bharti’s work, which is cleanly written, insightful
and interesting. She’s also a pleasure to deal with. (I might add that we can,
and do, say the same things about our other nine contributing editors. That
dependable, enthusiastic crew is one of the neat things about working at the
magazine.)

editor, The Writer
