I love Macs, and am very interested in the iPad as a writing tool, however I have a few caveats.
First: I bought the first release of Apple's Shuffle (512MB), Mac Mini (1.4GHz G4), and AppleTv (40GB) - all 3 products were good, but all three were considerably enhanced within a few months of release.
Second: I waited until the end of 2009 to buy a new MacBook and it has been through numerous improvements, so it will be a long time before I upgrade it.
Third: I've used a laptop, a netbook, and a Dana, and the small keyboard of the netbook and the weight and slow boot time of the laptop pushed me towards the Dana more than the other two items.
I will buy an iPad, but not now. Based on Apple's past history, the new improvements (more features like a camera, more memory, etc) in the next version of the iPad will probably justify the delay.
