Greetings to fellow writers and would-bes,

I'm new to the forum and not sure how to really use it, but here goes.  I'm first going to tell you a little about myself, mainly that I'm nearly seventy, live in Manhattan, have a writing background, was an advertising copywriter for many years, raised a family and still work, though not in advertising.  So I keep very busy.

About three years ago, I suddenly wanted to get back to writing in a serious way, joined a a short-story writing  workshop, and was lucky enough to hit a very good groups and leader.  I've been gaining confideence which resulted in the inspiration to write a novel, which took about a year.  I've just finished it, have many revisions in front of me, sometimes hi9gh hopes, but really no expectations.

I have to go visit my grandchildren now, so more later.  Diane

Re: Greetings to fellow writers and would-bes,

Hey Diane! ^^

What genre of novel did you write? What genres of writing do you like to write most?

Ugh, editing is like pulling teeth sometimes.

Re: Greetings to fellow writers and would-bes,

Hi!

Thanks for replying.  I wrote a novel about an older woman finally "growing up" or coming into her own after a life full of difficulties.  I'm now reading it all the way through for the first time to see what I have.  I sometimes write magical realism, but in short story form.  This effort is pretty straight fiction.  I'm going to let it sit for a couple of months before I start editing, but think editing will be easier than the first go and may be very enjoyable.  I love writing.

What about you?  What do your write, how long have you been at it and how has it gone?

Re: Greetings to fellow writers and would-bes,

Hi Diane!

As I finish my draft for my novel, I think the thing that intimidates me the most is the possibility of a loooooong revision process.

I'll read sometimes about a writer who spent three years or more on revision, and think "oh heck no!"

My ADD kicks in just thinking about it. So I try not to. lol

So best of luck to you. And welcome to The Writer forums.

Re: Greetings to fellow writers and would-bes,

Sorry for the late response. I've been gone all weekend. :)

I write fiction. I recently finished revising my first novel and (even more recently) sent it out to publishers. The revision process is tiring, but it CAN be fun and interesting, especially if you have others read your work and give you their opinions.

I've always loved writing; I decided I wanted to be a writer in kingergarten.

(When other people practiced their signatures for autograph-signing, I practiced for book signings. I'm afraid I'm not kidding.)

I'm very much a beginner, bought my first Market Guide this year. I'm fresh blood, though, so I don't consider it a problem. :P

I love writing short stories and am working on a second novel, but I'm running into some problems with it.

How often to do you experience "writer's block?" How do you combat it?
