Hello hello

Hello.

My name is Dan. I am a husband of 16 years and a father of 9 wonderful little (and some not-so-little) children. I thank God every single day that they all take after their mother. They are a great inspiration.

I have been a would-be writer since grade school. Honestly I love to write, and I love to read. But it is the courage to write something and then “send it out” that I need to get over.

Last year's NaNoWriMo helped me to overcome a lot of that “fear of commitment” that some of us have. It helped me to actually think of myself as a writer.

I have decided that 2009 is the year that I take a breath and send something out. It's a good thing that The Writer has all those listing to choose from! However, that leaves less room for excuses.lol

Hello! I am new here, too. I'm happy to say this is the year I did send something out. Like you, I had to get over that fear (of rejection, in my case). My fears were overcome through "therapy" in the form of my writers critique group. Learning to handle criticism and refine my writing was at times painful, but thoroughly worth it! Right now my submission is a finalist in a literary award competition, unpublished novel category.

Hi, CC.

Thanks for sharing that -- it's inspiring.Groups can hel, and that's something I really need to look into for myself.

And congrats on the literary contest. Finalist, wow!

Re: Hello hello

Hi Dan,

I think I was lucky as far as critique groups go. My first one was very intimidating! I was the only unpublished writer out of four people, and one author had just gotten a movie deal. In the second critique group I joined, things really meshed, and we've gotten a lot done. There was a somewhat recent Writer's Digest mag about finding the right group that may be of hlep.
