Publishing someone elses work....

I have ownership/possession of my great grandfather's poetry from the late 1800's -early 1900's, and I'm interested in putting them into book and attempting to get it published.  Can I do this under my name, showing him as author?

If the poems weren't previously published, then check with his immediate family (wife and/or surviving children). These are the people that might be able to claim ownership. Most times there will be no objection, in fact most would be proud to see their loved one in print. But sometimes there can be issues. Always check first.

If the poems have been previously published, they might still be owned by the publisher. You would need to check and ask permission.

Smarter people will come along and add to this.

Good Luck -Craven
