family dangers of an autobiography
I have already started my book but have serious reservations of using family and friends names.  How is it possible to write an autobiography if all the names are changed to protect the guilty.  Is that how it's done is to change everyones name including my own as the author.  Would appreciate some incite on this.  Would they do something...you better believe it.  Any advice would be helpful.  I am really anxious to proceed because what I have to write about just might help someone else out there to survive their family situations.

Re: family dangers of an autobiography
Writing an autobiography takes guts and a thick skin. You are likely to alienate all but the most understanding.

Realize that once you start changing names, you no longer have an autobiography, you've strayed into fiction - and that can be good news. Autobiographies are hard to sell, even if compelling, unless you are a celebrity. If the story is strong on its own, changing the names, locations, and circumstances slightly, and marketing it as a work of fiction may be a good choice. You'll have a better chance of selling it, and deniability with your family and friends: "No, that wasn't you, What made you think it was?"

Good luck -Craven
