Before christmas break (yes, still in school here, only 15) one of my friends told me about the Twlight series. I read the first one and was absolutely hooked. I got a gift certificate for borders for christmas and the first thing i bought were the second and third books in the series. i read them them in 3 days back to back. Until i reread Eclipse (the third one) i couldn't even separate what was in the second book from the third.
So i guess i want to know what everyone thought of the books. I thought they were amazing. I absolutely love Stephanie's writing style. There's something about the characters, her writing style, and the type of book that just all put together creates the best book i think i have ever read. When Bella was depressed, i would litterally start getting depressed my self. The last chapter of Ecplise had be crying 3 days after i read it if i would just think about it.
It's hard for me to get so hooked on a series (only other time i have been is with harry potter a few years ago). I have tried reading Eragon and other similar books, but none have caught my intrest. So my other question is any suggestions for books to read while i await the release of the next book?
It's nothing like the Twilight series, but I really enjoyed the Odd Thomas series, by Dean Koontz. They are about a young man who can see the dead. He's just a good guy. very likable, and he tries his hardest to help those around him.
They are a great read, and the fourth is due out any day now.
Just putting my two cents in and I don't mean to offend but...
When I heard about the first book I was interested. I really love vampire stories and thought it would be just what I was looking for. Unfortunately, it was the opposite. After reading all four books I am disappointed. I just think that Stephanie Meyer's writing is childish. The fourth book was the worst for me. It seemed like she was trying to go into a more adult novel but failed. The ending was very disappointing. I won't say what happens or anything specific because I don't want someone to read this who hasn't read the fourth book. Also, on another note, the Twilight series is eerily similar to already published books, ie Dead Until Dark by Charlene Harris.
Again, I don't mean to offend
I'd like to start by saying that I have not read all of the Twilight series, I have only read part of the first one. Also, I don't want to offend any Twilight fans, this is just my opinion of what I read and you are more than entitled to your own.
Quite frankly, I hated it and couldn't bring myself to finish it, which is rare for me, usualy I try to finish a book once I've started it. I found the writing style infantile and the characters were either bland or hateful. Bella is dull and seems to be that way so the reader Twilight is aimed at, teenage girls, can impose themselves over her quite easily. Edward was unrealistic and annoyingly 'perfect' to the point where he wasn't really a character at all but a cardboard cutout. Both lead characters are also incredibly selfish in their actions, putting not only themselves but the others around them at risk just so they can be together.
Also, vampires do not sparkle in the sunlight, end of.
I would say a couple of good series to which you could "progress" would be the Charlie Bones series or the Daughters of the Moon series. I'm sorry I don't remember either of the authors, but they are both fairly well written and in the same light reading category as Ms. Meyers attempts. Just my opinion, but Ms. Meyers could use a few creative writing courses and a lot of help from an editor. The stories are interesting and when she gets going, the action does seem to pull the reader in. But there were a lot places I felt she should've edited better - rewrite is there for a reason.
C Harris Try LJ Smith and she wrote in the 90s
I also think it is offensive that she propagates that she came up to an idea that vampires have conciousnes all on her own- that she never read vampire genera
