Anybody heard of a place called Lulu's?

What can you tell me about Lulu.com - Free Self-Publishing?

I have a friend-of-a-friend who is a freelance writer. She has recently self-published two or three manuscripts through Lulu. She suggested the online self-publishing, but I am a little apprehensive as I am looking to publish short stories.

Any advice or information or opinions about Lulu.com?

Yes, I have heard of the website. www.lulu.com. I have registered with them but I have not published anything yet. they seem pretty up and up. I was referred by a local writer here in Stockton, CA.

Thanks for replying lindah. I'm all curious about this self-publishing deals, and I wanted to know if anybody had any positive or negative experiences with a site like that in general. I am currently reading all the legal fine print, making sure I am not making a mistake.

A friend of mine had some books done and they came out very well. He is very satisfied with his experience with them.

That's good to know. A friend of a friend of a friend who is a writer self-published some stuff through Lulu's, but I am just not entirely sure it's good-to-go. Partly because of legality issues and copyright issues, but I just want to get my stuff in paper-form so others can read what I've written...and get my short stories without me having to print them out copies and mail them or email 'em to them.

I have a magazine that is on their site and they, so far, have been very good.  I use the download option which is better for me but plan to have my real books and such printed eventually.

Hi, Sean,

I've published quite a few e-books at Lulu.com--some are also regular books. I've found it easy to use (you don't need to be a techie), reliable and cost effective--the service is free for e-books and you get 80% of the royalty! The information on their Web site  (http://www.lulu.com) is comprehensive--it'll answer almost anything you want to know. Of course, as with any book, you must market your Lulu publiscations to generate sales.
