How much to charge...

I am working as an "independent contractor" for a publishing company, but I'm not sure what to charge for my services.  I can either be paid hourly or paid by the job, but I'm fairly new to the freelance world and I'm not sure what would be reasonable.  Can anyone help me out?

Thanks!

Re: How much to charge...

Hi Melaniekay,

As an "independent contractor" you should already know what the work includes and what you will be paid.  Those are the things that you and the company agree to during the interview or application process.  If nothing else, the company should have a standard pay scale that they follow.  I'm sure that they will not send work your way until both you and they know what the charge will be.

If, for some reason, you did not ask them about their pay scale, or if you told them that you would send your prices to them at a later date, then, you will need to contact other freelancers or publishing companies and see what their rates are.  As yet, you have not said what type of work you have "contracted" to do.

Anyway, good luck to you, I hope someone can give you an idea of the rates to charge for whatever it is that you will be doing.

Bob
