Challenges of Horror Genre Writing

I have a vampire novel scheduled to be published this fall by Mundania Press, with another Victorian period vampire novel to be published in three parts beginning in the spring of '07. Now I'm in the market for a literary agent.

I seems there are a relatively few literary agents who handle horror and, perhaps, fewer of those who come recommended based on their business practices. I'd like to hear from other horror writers and their experiences.

Re: Challenges of Horror Genre Writing

I don't write horror but in my own research for an agent of my genre what I've found helpful is to check the Acknowledgements in books in your genre.  So maybe check to see Stephen King's agent...which is Ralph M. Vicinanza, Ltd. Literary Agency.  I only know this b/c one of their agents is going to be at a conference that I'm attending next month...she is available for pitching meetings.  I'll find out who I am pitching to in a few weeks...exciting!

Anyway, check other horror/thriller books and many times you can find info in their Acknowledgements.

AND

Here is a website:  http://www.wrhammons.com/literary-agents-books.htm

On this site you can look for the book or the author and their literary agent should be listed there.

Good luck!

Re: Challenges of Horror Genre Writing
I write horror -- along with fantasy and media tie-ins -- and I don't know of any agents who specialize in the genre anymore. Lori Perkins did back in the horror hey-day of the late 80's, early 90's, and she might be worth checking out. There's a large horror community online at the Shocklines site -- www.shocklines.com -- and folks there might be able to give you more suggestions for agents.
