Has anyone worked with e-query.com?

I periodically get e-mails from e-query.com.  I didn't sign up for them, but I get them anyway.  They make the "incredible offer" to represent an authors work -only 10 authors at a time, for a week- for the "incredible price" of $150.00.  They supposedly send our the manuscript to publishers and agents (legit ones only) and sell, sell, sell, the author and their manuscript.  They often get six-figure deals for their clients too. although they do list ones in the five-figure range as well. They send it out like an offer/newsletter with who they have gotten a six-figure deal for recently and with whom.  Some of the names (Authors and Books) sound made up (this is ironic since that is what we do- I, myself, use a pseudonym) but I mean really made up.  The books they say they have sold I haven't found in searches nor the authors, albeit I have only searched a few out of pure curiosity and I do realize that it can take a couple of years for a book to actually get published, so it wouldn't show up yet.

So...has anyone actually worked with them and obtained one of their great book deals?  It sounds fishy to me-like the don't pay an agent until they sell your book warning.  Did you actually get the coverage they promised?   Is this a scam?  Confused [%-)]

If you have to pay an agent to represent you then that agent isn't legitamate.  It should never cost you to have an agent.  Also, all this sounds "too good to be true."  If it sounds that way, it probably is.  I'd be extrememly cautious of them if I were you!

I'm not familiar with this particular firm, but think about it. If I read your post correctly they offer to sell your work for 1 week for $150. That is a lot of money or a lot of queries for 1 week. Do they promise results in that week or do they assume you will sign up for another $150 and another and another?

If they do promise results, what does that mean? Any results? Like would an e-publisher that required a fee be a result?

As writers we are very vulnerable and there is much money to be made from our vulnerability. A writer could go into hock just taking advantage of perfectly legitimate offers like writers conferences, online and bricks and mortar classes, organizations, books and magazines on craft. With even published authors finding it difficult to make a living, one has to decide very carefully how much it is worth pouring into it.

Check Victoria Strauss' and Ann Crispin's blog "Writer Beware" out.  http://accrispin.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_accrispin_archive.html  They address this type of service in the entry marked Worthless Services for writers.

Thanks for confirming what I already suspected. Disapprove [V]  I'll hit 'block sender' the next time they make me the 'generous' offer to represent me.  I thought they sounded a little too promising.  It's a shame we (writers) have to be so skepticle of everything.  It is hard enough finding representation without so many trying to take advantage of us.
