Writer's Market: Hard Copy or On-line Version?

Hey all:

I have a question, re: the relative merit of Writer's Digest's "Writer's Market."

Has anyone purchased the on-line version and if so, how do you like it?  I've purchased the hard copy for years.

I have some questions, cheifly:

1. Is it a searchable database, searchable by the amount paid per article?  For example, can I search all boating-related magazines, and have it sort them from the highest fee paid (or highest fee range paid, as some pay a variable amount)?

2. Do you still get the excellent articles on writing that are included in the hard copy?

3. Are there any disadvantages to getting the on-line copy?

4. Genearlly, which do you like better, and why?

Thanks in advance.

Like you, I've been a strictly hard copy person.

Yes it has a searchable database with a number of parameters you can set. They have direct links to the magazines' web site and online guidelines, when available.

In addition, you can create personal folders to save & organize your target markets. There is a submission tracker feature that enables you to plan and calendar your query and follow up activities, and pops up reminders. They post daily updates to the markets. Any updates are immediately reflected in your personal folders. They also post daily news about changes in the industry. So it is easy to keep up to date.

It does not enable you to add your own markets to your personal folders--ones you've identified but aren't their database.

I order Writer's Market Deluxe which includes both the paper and online versions. That way I don't have choose one vs the other, as each has its advantages. It is still nice to sit down with a book and browse. I don't think the articles are online, but then again, I haven't gone looking for them, because I get the hard copy version too.

You can try the online version for $3 or $4 for one month. Why not check it out for a month & see what you think?
