Attention fiction writers!
I need your help!
For my Master’s thesis in psychology at Mississippi
State University
I am doing a study on creativity among fiction writers looking at factors
associated with the appeal of fiction.
Traditional theories of creativity focus primarily on novelty. Most writers have heard the old adage that
“there are no new stories,” so what is it that makes a piece of fiction
appealing?
As part of the study, participants will fill out a survey
about their writing habits and thoughts on writing, as well as complete a brief
writing task. We expect the survey
portion of the study to take 30-45 minutes to complete. The writing task itself is no more than 1,000
words (may certainly be less), so the amount of time it takes to complete will
vary a great deal according to how quickly you write. You are more than welcome to take your time
with the survey over a couple of weeks as you have time.
This is your opportunity to help better define what makes a
piece of writing creative!
