Quoting from the Bible in a Work of Fiction
In a short story that I am writing, I use two Biblical quotations. In the first case, one of my characters quotes the Bible, but it is clear that he does not know that the words come from the Bible. In the second case, I quote the Bible in a paragraph in which I am describing an event. In both cases, I italicized the words to try to make it clear that these are not my words; I expect (and hope) that the reader will know that the words are from the Bible. I did not want to use the Biblical verse citation after either quote, since that would have destroyed the mood of the story. Is this an accepted way to handle such a situation? Is italicizing the Biblical verses enough, or should I use actual quotes instead? Any guidance that you can provide would be welcome. Many thanks for your help!

Re: Quoting from the Bible in a Work of Fiction
Many thanks - I did get an answer to this question, with the help of one of your readers and some research that I did. Several versions of the Bible are not copyrighted - such as the King James Version and the World English Bible - and they can be quoted without attibution. Thanks again.
