Well, it's getting close to that infamous first Tuesday again. I
do so wish that politicians would stop taking themselves so damn
seriously. Here in Virginia, we have the usual suspects up
against the wall, and I have yet to hear any one of them say what it is
that they'll actually do in office. It's always about what their
opponents either did do or won't do - doesn't matter. They end up
describing each other in the most childish ways imaginable.
When did we stop making our elected officials civil? When did we
tell them that nastiness was ok. When did we ever tell them that
we wanted mean spirited, petty, cruel, selfish twits in charge?
Just once, I'd like to see someone announce their candicacy by saying
something nice. Something I've often entertained if I were ever
to campaign for an office.
"Folks, I've decided to run for President of these United States.
Now first of all, I want to go on record stating that there's not a
darn thing wrong with either of them other two fellas. They're fine
candidates and I came pretty close to votin' for one or both of 'em
myself.
"But I figure I can do a pretty good job up there too. I can
read, write, cipher a bit. I'll always say 'please' and
'thanks'. I stand up when a lady enters the room and I look every
fella in the eye whilst I talk to 'em."
Ok, I realize that didn't ever happen even the FIRST year of
elections. But wouldn't it be nice if they'd at least stop and
think before they plastered their trash all over the airwaves?
Thanks for humoring me and reading my rant.
