I was wondering if any of you work in a broader definition of the term or do you stick to the pretty trditional 'type'? I used to do romance (in addition to trying my hand at a dozen different genre over the years) but I think I got too jaded so I moved to chic-lit; I'm more comfortable with the sarcasm, wit and cynicism. I tend to dabble in a variety of styles.
I actually have a bit of trouble with the twenty-nine year old heroine who thinks she's getting old and is getting desperate for a "mate". Maybe because I'm 44 and married with teenage daughters. I've been playing with Mommy-lit (I think that's what it's called) and also more of a chic-lit/mystery type thing, and I have an idea for a gay chic-lit (fem-lit I think it might be called).
Does anyone else work outside of the 'Bridget Jones' type chic-lit? Not that I don't enjoy it, although I liked the other book she came out with last year that has nothing to do with Bridget, much more - (I'm sorry I am completely blanking on the name even though I really liked it - something to do with 'Olivette' maybe, and a woman trying to be a legit reporter)
