I have a question: why do the forum posts now show the comments from another poster in the "reply" section? I was wondering if respondents are copying and pasting these previous comments on purpose, or whether they just "show up"? I notice it is not happening on all posts, and some have replies in a box, also sometimes with reply comments from others. I don't remember seeing this sort of format in the old forum area, but I had only joined up a couple of weeks ago and was not that familiar with the old forum site, so maybe I am mistaken. I am having a harder time reading the forum posts because I am having to read through the other posts to get to the respondent's commeents. Is this just me or is this aggravating to others?
Also, on the old forum, there was a place to mark a section for an alert e-mail when there was a reply to a post. I don't see that now. I thought that was a convenient feature if there was a topic you wanted to track without looking at the others and if you just wanted to hop over to the site for a quick read. Am I missing something?

jobydog,
I'm confused by what you mean the 'reply section'. Do you mean the page that comes up when you hit the 'reply' button on a post, when you want to reply to that post?
If you do, whosever post you hit the reply button on, (the original one or a comment 'reply' added to that original one), that will be the writing that shows up on the page where you type in your reply. And only that post (writing) will show up, not all of them or the original one, unless it is the original one you clicked the reply button on.
If this isn't what you mean, forgive me...
As for the place you can mark to alert you with an e-mail when someone replys to the original post -- when you click on a post to read it, at the top will be a few tabs. One of them says notify. Click on that and it will place a check mark on it and then you will get an e-mail telling you when someone replies to that post.
Or, If you send a post or a reply to a post and want to keep a watch on it, underneath the box you type into, there are three things... a place you can do a 'file attachment', a box you can click on to 'Do not allow replies' and the third, a box you can check that says 'Email me replies to this post'. Click on the third one.
So either way, you can either click the notify box at the top of a particular post or you can click the box under a reply box you type in ...
Note: if you click the box at the bottom after you type in a reply, it also places a check mark in the notify box at the top.
Let me know if this helps.

dbmaine,
No, what I meant by the "reply" section is not when you actually reply to a post. What I was referring to was reading replies to posts. On a lot of the responses, the original post will be on the reply, and you have to read all the way down through it, or at least until you realize that this was the previous post itself, then you scan to the bottom and see the actual reply itself. But I noticed on the reply to my "dumb question" post that this did not happen, all I saw was your actual reply. So I assume that people are just clarifying what they are replying to by copying and pasting the original into reply to that particular thread. So I guess mine really was a dumb question!![Tongue [:P]](/WRT/CS/emoticons/icon_smile_tongue.gif)
I do see what you are talking about at the bottom. I'll try it out.
Thanks for the help. This new forum just takes a little getting used to.

Oh, I see what you mean! It's because they are hitting the quote button instead of the reply button on the post.
The forum does take some getting used to!

I just laughed out loud too after reading all that 'dumb question' stuff and then the 'new planet' comment. My cat looks at me funny too. Funny thing is, they're the ones who usually are doing the weird stuff. I also appreciate the quote button being explained so clearly since I never knew how to use it before. My youngest daughter is not around to explain it to me. (Yes, she is the family computer geek.)

Joby, Are your posts really a cry for help, of a different sort?? I'm all for self-deprecating humour, but don't overdo it! In one small thread, you've not only referred to yourself as "dumb" numerous times, you've also said "I love making peoples' days, because I do it so infrequently" ... I hope your next thread involves you telling us something positive about yourself... Cheers, RW
