October 2005
Books on the Bosque, 2005
November 11 & 12
Writers, readers, book club members, and book lovers of all
ages, mark your calendars for the second annual “Books on the Bosque”
Conference November 11th and 12th, 2005, in beautiful Clifton, Texas, at
the top of the hill country will be held in the historic Clifton
Elementary School. The conference will offer fantastic opportunities
for both readers and writers, with a fun Friday night book party, as
well as a full day of Saturday writers’ workshops and book reviews by
featured authors. Both days will feature book signings, with table space
at Saturday’s signing open to all authors attending the conference,
space permitting.
Don’t miss this chance to rub elbows with some of Texas’s finest
authors. This year’s slate of featured authors includes Donna Ingham,
our storyteller back by popular demand; Britta Coleman, with her
blockbuster first novel coming out in June from Warner, Potter Springs;
Scott Walker, pastor and published author from First Baptist Church in
Waco; Michael Sampson, famous children’s author of Chicka, Chicka,
1.2.3.; Lisa Wingate, Clifton’s hometown favorite whose latest book is
due out in November; and then our keynote speaker, Elmer Kelton writer
of over 40 novels and “…truly a Texas Legend,” says governor Rick Perry.
Early registration fee of $45 includes the full Saturday
conference, Saturday continental breakfast, luncheon and afternoon book
signing. Join our free-to-the-public Friday evening Reflections &
Confections party to get acquainted over desserts and meet the
presenters. Enjoy a short program of readings by the featured
presenters followed by an opportunity to have books signed. A Saturday
afternoon Children’s Story Hour with Michael Sampson will be offered
free of charge to children, teachers and parents. Dr. Sampson will read
Chicka, Chicka, 1.2.3 (co-authored with Bill Martin Jr. & Parent’s
Magazine Choice of the Year, 2004) as he dishes out encouragement for
children to read and to write. Added this year will be a People’s
Choice Book Review Contest on Saturday afternoon for all conference
attendees. Traveling companions and guests are also invited to spend
Saturday taking a self-guided audio tour of the historic churches,
homesteads, and museums of Bosque county or shopping in the charming
main street antique malls
