An opulent writing gig

If you live in the Milwaukee area and are looking for an interesting part-time job, here’s a unique opportunity: The Pfister, the city’s grand Victorian hotel, is searching for a “narrator” to spend time in the lobby interviewing guests and visitors, and then sharing their stories on the hotel’s blog.

“There are so many interesting people who pass through our doors each day,” says Pfister general manager Joe Kurth, in a press release. “We'd love to share their unique stories with the rest of Milwaukee and beyond. The Pfister Narrator will be responsible for helping us achieve that goal, while gaining valuable personal and professional skills along the way.”

The narrator will work at least 10 hours per week for six months, and is expected to post two or more blogs each week. Compensation is $1,000 per month plus meals. (Other payment options include a scholarship for continuing education and a donation to a charity of your choice.) You don't have much time to apply—the application deadline is October 1. For more information and a downloadable application form, go to the Pfister site.

Milwaukeeans know the Pfister for its great restaurants, holiday events and, most notably, its incredible lobby and lavish Victorian art collection. And then there’s the ghost: For years there have been reports of a shadowy figure, perhaps founder Charles Pfister, walking the halls. Visiting ballplayers have reported odd experiences, including Minnesota Twins’ Carlos Gomez, who was spooked by voices in his room and iPod that went haywire.
